1689 Theology Project: Module 2 Recap
We completed our second module for the 1689 Theology Project on December 3 and 4. This Unit covers chapters 19 through 25 under the theme “Christian Life and Worship.” Brian Borgman lectured on “The Law of God” (ch. 19) and “Christian Liberty and Liberty of Conscience” (ch. 21). Bob Gonzales addressed “The Gospel and the Extent of Its Grace” (ch. 20) and “Oaths and Vows” ( ch. 23). Robert Briggs expounded the topics of “Religious Worship and the Sabbath” (ch. 22), “The Civil Magistrate” (ch. 23), and “Marriage” (ch. 24). Each instructor examined the Confession’s teaching in light of its historical context, offered some exegetical and theological reflections, and included practical application.
Approximately 60 attended the module, with an additional 8 joining us via live-streaming. Most of the attendees came from California and Nevada. We also some from Wyoming, Texas, and Montana. Camille Villanueva provided module photos (see below).
The five courses for the 1689 Theology Project will serve as the heart of a 24-credit Certificate of Reformed Baptist Studies program. Other core courses include the English Particular Baptists and Confessing the Faith. The program is primarily designed for laypeople and foreign pastors who do not have a solid theological education. Local churches could utilize the program for leadership training or internship programs. If you have questions, let us know here.
