You're invited to a Summer Module entitled "Calling & Cultivation." Immanuel Baptist Church of Sacramento, California, will host the module June 9 thru 15. Pastors Jeff Johnson and Robert Briggs will address the subject of a "call to ministry," as well as the cultivation of godliness at the level of a man's personal character, marriage and family, and his public ministry. Dr Michael Haykin will serve as a guest lecturer and speak the final day on the personal piety of 18th century Calvinist Baptists.

May Module: Hermeneutics

I'd like to invite you to our 2014 spring module on the subject of biblical interpretation or hermeneutics. Pastor Mark Chanski, author of Manly Dominion and Womanly Dominion, will serve as our primary lecturer. He will be joined by Dr Mark Ward Jr who will give three lectures that provide an overview and assessment of the three major Bible software platforms (Bibleworks, Logos, and Accordance). I had the privilege of growing up in a godly, Christian home. At a very young age, I had a fear of standing before the Lord at the judgment seat. One night during a strong thunderstorm, I made a profession of faith. During my teen years, I retained that fear of judgment, and I could never seem to get an assurance of my salvation. I went to church three times a week, went to a Christian school where the Word of God was consistently taught, and had godly parents encouraging me on throughout the week. Although I was surrounded by all these blessings, I never studied the Word on my own.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism is best known for its opening question: “What is the chief end of man?”  To which the following reply is offered: “Man’s chief end is to glorify and enjoy God forever.” Hardly a more comprehensive and biblical answer could be imagined. This “ultimate question” is so comprehensive that it may accurately be applied to God himself with the same result: “What is the chief end of God?” Answer: “God’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.”That is to say, everything God does in the world—especially His work of salvation—He does to further His own glory and enjoyment in the world.
