Graduate Profile: Caleb Moore (MATS)
/I praise God for the marvelous ways in which He redeems, He works, He sustains, and shows His grace is sufficient.
Though I have been able to (by His grace and kindness) serve in a full-time ministry context since 2011, I sadly admit that for several years, I didn’t prioritize sharpening my mind and fortifying my life with the wonderful truths of theology and doctrine. I found it appealing at times to fashion my ministry and thoughts after the shallow and pragmatic ways of too many churches today.
However, God, in His kindness and through His providence, led me on a journey of desire to deepen the wells of both my mind for thought and the heart for greater affections for Him. I praise God for allowing me to see the futility in those ways and for giving me the ability to course-correct to a more faithful way according to His Word.
As I desired to further my education beyond my undergrad studies at Bible College, I knew I wanted to pursue a very specific vein of study. I wanted to gain biblical and theological competency, specifically within the Reformed Baptist umbrella, which would help deepen my appreciation of the rich tradition and heritage I have come to appreciate so much. One of the things I knew I needed was a school that I could attend while continuing to serve in a ministry vocation.
I couldn’t be more thankful for RBS. The extremely wise faculty, the rich material and coursework, the desire to see study merged with involvement in the local church, and the ability to allow you to do this both in person and from a distance. Through my studies at RBS, I have grown not only in my love for God’s Word but also in my appreciation for a robust confessionalism that stands on the shoulders of faithful men who have carried the torch before us.
There are a couple of thanks I would like to extend to RBS. Obviously, the whole staff and faculty of RBS. Specifically, I begin with Dr. Bob Gonzales for always being available and giving wise counsel. You are an incredibly wise man, and I have enjoyed learning from you. I am thankful to Vadim Chepurny for your diligent work behind the scenes in all that happens at RBS. You were not only helpful but also patient, even amid my sometimes inability to figure out technical things. I’m deeply thankful to Professor Greg Nichols and the courses you taught. Your love for God’s Word and these wonderful doctrinal truths was a constant source of joy and excitement in listening to lectures. I have often drawn back to notes from the past to use in present moments, but devotionally and ministerially. Lastly, I am thankful for Brandon Fertig, a brother in Christ and fellow student, who kept recommending RBS to me.
Lastly, I would be remiss not to thank my wonderful wife, Lauren, for her support and constant encouragement in this journey. You have been a source of godly encouragement and counsel; you have supported me not only in ministry but also through long nights and endless work. Thank you for your patient endurance and steadfast love. You’re a gift and treasure. Thank you to my four girls for letting your daddy spend this time studying. I can only pray that this time spent can be used in God’s sovereignty and timing to help each of you develop a greater love for Christ and a desire to live out our convictions for Him.
