Graduate Profile: Nicolas Cathcart

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us” (2 Corinthians 4:7).

My name is Nicolas Cathcart, and I live in Boca Raton, Florida. I have called South Florida home for my entire life. Aside from my time away at college and law school, I have also been blessed to attend Emmanuel Baptist Church my whole life. The faithful preaching and emphasis on sound doctrine and theology at EBC helped sparked my interest in deepening my theological knowledge and growing my faith.

Having grown up in a faithful Christian home and solid local church, I was exposed to truth from a young age. However, it was not until I properly understood the Gospel that I truly placed my faith entirely in Christ and His work on the cross, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). The Lord also worked greatly through the church I attended in college (Grace Immanuel Bible Church in Jupiter, FL). Using the men and ministry at that church, the Lord convicted me of self-reliance and failing to truly understand the depth of my sin and need for Christ.

I started RBS right before I left for law school. Because of the flexible, online nature of RBS, I was able to stay enrolled even as I moved four hours away to Gainesville, and I continued to take classes throughout law school. Despite being away from my home church, I was able to get plugged in with faithful local churches: The Chapel and Monteocha Baptist Church. The elders there provided me opportunities to preach and would graciously proctor my exams. Without the flexible course pacing and online classes available to me through RBS, I probably would not have been able to continue to take seminary classes while in law school.

My hope is to be useful to the church in any way that I can. I want to be “a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” (2 Timothy 2:21). I also desire to help small local churches who cannot afford to pay a full-time pastor by being able to step in as a bivocational minister until the church is able finically support a full-time pastor. Lord willing, I also would like eventually to pursue a PhD in Applied Theology.

I want to thank the faithful pastors and men who poured into me spiritually throughout my walk with Christ: Pastor Jeff Smith, Pastor Daron Roberts, Mike Canfield, Don Crowe, Pastor Paul Farese, Pastor Brad Williams, and Pastor Earnest Williams. I want to especially thank Pastor Smith and Pastor Brad for serving as mentors and proctoring my exams and thank Pastor Earnest for opening the pulpit at Montoecha Baptist Church for me to preach for my preaching practicum. I also want to thank my wife Christy for her patience, love, and support as I pursued both my MTS and my law degree. Lastly, I thank the Lord, who has done “exceedingly abundantly above all” that I could ever “ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
Soli Deo Gloria.
