Not Too Late to Sign Up for OT Introduction Module

The module on Old Testament Introduction is underway. Last week, Dr. Robert Gonzales lectured on such topics as the OT's relevance, authority, composition, and transmission. He also began a series of lectures on the OT's historical reliability, which he'll complete when he returns the third week of October (17-22). Not only is he attempting to marshal biblical and extra-biblical evidence to support the OT's accuracy and trustworthiness, but he plans to respond to various challenges to the OT's reliability. In particular, some modern scholars allege the the OT's literature is too similar to the extra-biblical literature of the ANE to make it unique. Others claim that the teaching of the OT conflicts with the teaching of the NT. Still others allege irreconcilable "tensions" and unsolvable "discrepancies." Dr. Gonzales intends to address these challenges head on.

These lectures will constitute part of the curriculum for two seminaries: Midwest Center for Theological Studies (where Dr. Gonzales serves as the adjunct professor of Old Testament Studies) and Reformed Baptist Seminary (where Dr. Gonzales serves as the dean and professor of Biblical Studies). The MCTS offering includes two 2-credit courses (BI 11, BI 12). RBS offers a 2-credit and 3-credit version of OT Intro (ET 511-2, ET 511-3).

It's still not too late to sign up for the module. Currently, three MCTS students are attending the lectures, and three RBS students and one auditor are participating over the Internet through "live-streaming" technology. If you have highspeed Internet access, you can login during the class times, listen to the lectures, and participate in the classroom discussion times. The lecture schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, October 18th, 5:45pm-10:00pm
  • Thursday, October 20th, 5:45pm-10:00pm
  • Saturday, October 22nd, 9:00am-11:45am

The cost of accessing the lectures via live-streaming is $20 for this semester and $20 for next semester. For $50 per semester, the student can get access to live-streaming and also to digital downloading (in case he has to miss some lectures). For more information about getting access to the lectures, contact John Divito, the MCTS registrar (registrar@mctsowensboro.org). For information about taking the course for credit through RBS, contact Dr. Gonzales (dean@rbseminary.org).

We'd love to have you join us!
