Instructor Profile: Vadim Chepurny

Vadim Chepurny teaches courses on Research & Writing, and Biblical Theology for RBS.

Conversion

Vadim was born in Ukraine to a Christian family in 1989, just before the fall of the USSR. It was a time of great awakening in the region. With newfound religious freedom, churches were being planted almost every day. His parents were part of the central local Baptist church in Kyiv. As a young child, Vadim clearly recalls seeing genuine love for Christ, reverence for the Scriptures, and a zeal to serve God. However, the church was spiritually young and immature. Very few men received in-depth theological training. The gospel was not always clearly presented. So when the early years of revival subsided, the church became easy prey to false teaching and pragmatism.

In 1998, Vadim’s family moved to the United States. He was initially baptized at the age of 17, as this was considered the right age to join the church. However, it was not until he was 24 that God truly converted him to Christ. While studying the doctrines of grace, Vadim, for the first time, understood the holiness of God, his own sin, and the need for a Substitute. He placed his faith in Christ and never looked back. Seeing that baptism is an external sign of an internal reality, Vadim was truly baptized in 2015. Along with embracing the doctrines of grace, God had planted the desire to teach and preach the Scriptures.

Family

Vadim is married to Anna. They met in 2010, the year that Anna’s family moved from Ukraine to Sacramento, CA. For a time, their paths diverged. Several years later, however, while Vadim was studying at The Master’s Seminary in Los Angeles, Anna moved to LA to study microbiology at UCLA. After Vadim, by the grace of God, was able to persuade her to embrace the doctrines of grace, the path was made straight for marriage. They married in 2018. Together, Vadim and Anna have four children: Leah, Mark, Ivan, and Mila.

Vocation

Dean of Students at Reformed Baptist Seminary.

Hobbies

Vadim has always enjoyed playing basketball and various other sports. He also enjoys jazz and plays the alto saxophone. In more recent years, most of his “hobby” time has been spent with his wife and children.

Ministry

While in seminary, Vadim served in a local jail ministry in Los Angeles, preaching and leading services about once a month. After graduating, between 2018 and 2021, Vadim served as a pastoral assistant in Sacramento, CA. Ever since beginning seminary training, it has been his desire to return to Ukraine and help strengthen the church in his home country. However, due to Russia’s invasion in 2022 and RBS’s move to Florida around the same time, these plans were put on hold. Nevertheless, they continue to pray that doors would be opened to return to Ukraine to minister the gospel of grace.

Education

Vadim earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis in 2013. He completed his M.Div. at The Master’s Seminary in Los Angeles, CA, in 2018.
