Graduate Profile: Braden Patterson

“We preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Cor. 1:23–24).

My name is Braden Patterson, and I serve as the pastor of Grace Bible Church of Moorpark, California. I am the blessed husband of my wife, Emily, and the grateful father of four boys: Shepherd, Owen, Nehemiah, and Judah. It has been a great privilege and kindness of the Lord to attend Reformed Baptist Seminary.

I was raised in the LDS religion for 19 years before our sovereign God graciously changed my heart, opened my eyes, and made my deaf ears to hear. I could no longer deny Jesus Christ as my Lord, my God, and my Savior. Since that time, the Lord has been kind to me in providing faithful, older men to walk alongside me and help disciple my growth. Through my conversion and subsequent study of the Scriptures, I became increasingly convinced of the truths of Reformed theology, particularly those summarized in the 1689 Baptist Confession and its covenantal framework.

I sought to attend this seminary in order to pursue a more formal theological education for the sake of being more useful in the service of Christ and His church. While already engaged in pastoral ministry, I recognized my need for further sharpening in doctrine, greater precision in handling the Scriptures, and deeper theological maturity. Reformed Baptist Seminary provided a unique opportunity to grow in these areas while remaining rooted in the life and responsibilities of the local church.

Throughout my time at RBS, I have been continually reminded that faithful ministry must be both theologically grounded and practically applied. The seminary’s commitment to being Christ-centered, confessionally Reformed, and church-based has not only strengthened my convictions, but also refined my pastoral labors. What I learned in the classroom consistently found its way into the pulpit, the counseling room, and the daily shepherding of souls. This integration has been one of the greatest blessings of my studies.

There were seasons that tested my endurance as I sought to balance the demands of pastoral ministry, family life, bi-vocational full-time firefighting, and academic responsibilities. Yet the Lord proved faithful to sustain me through them all. I am especially thankful for my wife, Emily, whose support, patience, and sacrifice made this pursuit possible. I am likewise grateful for the faculty of RBS, whose instruction, example, and commitment to the truth have had a lasting impact on my life and ministry.

By God’s grace, my time at RBS has better equipped me to preach Christ faithfully, to shepherd the flock entrusted to my care, and to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. I remain committed to serving Christ in the local church for the furtherance of His gospel and the good of His people.

I am deeply thankful for Reformed Baptist Seminary and the role it has played in my life and ministry.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Braden Patterson
